Author’s Notes

It's Thanksgiving! Yes I know it's an American holiday but it was good enough inspiration to write this puzzle. I chose less-known cities that speak these languages because I think it goes against the convention a typical puzzle would adopted for associating language with geography.

Note on Mombasa: there are way too many ways to say "Thanks" in some languages, like Swahili, and "Thanks" in Arabic has too many spellings/transliterations. The Swahili word I was going for supposedly is more predominant in the coastal regions becuase there used to be more Arabic influence. I don't know how true this is but I didn't factcheck this too much more.
